We are very proud of our City. Hastings is a progressive community located in the center of Barry County in the lower half of Michigan. Hastings is ideally situated for the amenities of a major urban area, as well as the recreational and educational benefits of a smaller, more family- oriented community. Hastings is equally centered between four major metropolitan areas including Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Lansing, our State Capital.
Hastings has a present population of over 7,350. It has its own airport operated by both the City and County, we have a library, a 4 screen movie theater, excellent schools, an excellent hospital and also community college. Our location provides excellent access to all major markets in Michigan, the Midwest, South and East.
The City has made major strides in the areas of business and economic development, inter- agency cooperation and growth management. With an expanding population base in Barry County, the City of Hastings is posed for future growth.
Hastings is a vivid example of a community that works to provide a quality of life for all citizens and this is most likely the reason Hastings is rated as one of the best 100 small towns in America by Norman Crampton in his book "The 100 Best Small Towns in America".
