DEPARTMENT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Goal 1:
Improve departmental public relations.
Objectives:
1.
Increase public awareness to the causes of fires and the methods to prevent
them.
2.
Continue to meet with representatives of the public to explain what they need
to do to prevent fires.
3.
Continue to provide fire prevention programs to the schools within our area to
make the children aware of what they need to do to prevent fires and what to do
if a fire occurs.
4.
Provide fire and related articles for the City Newsletter. This
will help make the citizens more aware of what needs to be done to protect them
from this type of disaster. Increase public awareness to the causes of
fires and the methods to prevent them.
5.
Continue public service announcements on smoke detectors.
6.
Continue to check smoke detectors and CO2 monitors for the
citizens of the area that we cover.
7.
Install smoke detectors and batteries in residences for the
citizens in our fire area.
8.
Continue to hold the annual department pancake breakfast (fund
raiser).
9.
Provide blood pressure check on request at the annual department
pancake breakfast.
10.
Collect items for the needy.
11.
The department as agreed to be a Safe Delivery Site. (What this
means is a mother has a new born and does not want the baby she can drop it off
at the fire station without any type of hassle. The fire department in turn
contacts the proper authorities to take care of the baby).
Goal 2:
Improve office effectiveness and efficiency.
Objectives:
1.
Continue to provide computer training for all fire department personnel.
2.
Maintain the maintenance records on the computer.
3.
Maintain all training records on the computer.
4.
Continue to update computer software as need arises.
Goal 3:
Raise the level of proficiency of the fire department.
Objectives:
1.
Work to get all members of the department involved in developing the training
needs for the department.
2.
Get more outside instructors involved in doing the training for the department.
3.
Have more members become certified as instructors.
4.
Encourage more members to attend Fire Officer Training Classes.
5.
All members are trained to the Firefighter I & Firefighter II level.
6.
Encourage all department members to attend more outside training.
7.
All members that took the Medical First Responder training will continue to
take continuing education training as MFR’s.
8.
Encourage all current members to be trained as Medical First Responders.
9.
All new members will be trained as MFR’s.
Goal 4: Improve emergency response capability with our fire
department.
Objectives:
1. Continue to use the Incident Command
System.
2. Enhance the communications from E-9-1-1
to the firefighters.
3. Make personnel more aware of rules and
regulations while responding to emergencies.
4. Update pagers to improve voice
communication with firefighters.
5.
Install AEDs are on some of the fire trucks and make sure that all
members are trained to use them.
6.
The use of the thermal imaging cameras.
Goal 5:
Build a new fire station.
Objectives:
1.
Work with City of
2.
Work with C2AE (formerly DesignWorks) to come up with a convenient
location for the station that is readily accessible for all personnel
responding to calls. Also when looking at a location for the station need to
take into consideration the time that it takes to respond to the different
areas that we cover.
3.
Get input from the full-time and part-paid members of the
department

Look for alternate funding if needed.
5.
Make sure that the new building is energy efficient.
6.
Make sure that the training area is large enough and has the
adequate audio/visual equipment to do an excellent job of providing the
training that is needed.
7.
Provide adequate room for all of the trucks and sleeping quarters.
Goal 6:
Enhance communication.
Objectives:
1.
Work to better the communications with other departments.
2.
Work with BCCD to upgrade all fire department communications in
the county to be completed in 2007.
3.
Look for alternative funding through WMD and FEMA for grants to
enhance all departmental communications.
4.
Work with agencies other than fire so that we can better
communicate with them.
5.
Received a FEMA grant to purchase Communication/Intercom Headsets
for all personnel that are seated in all responding vehicles.
